Our Farm Products
Organic Certified Vegetables and Fruits
We grow a large variety of vegetables - everything from arugula to zucchini! And, we have many fruit and berry trees.
Organic Certified Eggs
Fresh eggs from pasture-raised, organic certified, happy and healthy chickens!
Organic Certified Broiler Chickens (meat)
We generally offer pasture-raised, whole, frozen chickens. However, we will not have any broiler chickens in 2019. We do plan to offer broiler chickens again in 2020.
Organic Certified Turkeys (meat)
We generally have Bourbon Red heritage breed turkeys, available the week prior to Thanksgiving. However, we will not have any turkey available in 2019. We do plan to offer turkey again in 2020.
Grass-fed, Pasture-raised Beef (meat)
We purchase young, just-weaned steers and then raise them as naturally as possible. No antibiotics, no GMO feed, no chemicals -- just our own organic certified grass and hay.
Grass-fed, Pasture-raised Lamb (meat)
We are raising 18 lambs in 2019. No antibiotics, no GMO feed, no chemicals -- just our own organic certified grass and hay.
Professionally cleaned and processed from lambs we raise on the farm. They make beautiful gifts!
We keep a few honeybee hives that produce incredible honey. Again, we maintain them as naturally as possible.
Quality, Nutrition, and Flavor...
USDA Organic Certified
Organic certification provides a guarantee to our customers that we follow very specific methods to grow your food. No Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), no chemical fertilizers, no pesticides, no herbicides, no fungicides, no synthetic chemicals at all. Full audit trail paperwork is continually submitted to our certified inspector, along with very detailed annual on-site inspections of our farm. But this certification is only a starting point... We go beyond organic.
We want to provide produce of the highest quality possible for our local customers. With this concept, there is no need to ship produce long distances -- thus eliminating the need for preservatives and saving the cost of transportation!
Most of our vegetables are harvested and delivered to customers the same day or within one day. The vegetables are harvested at their peak of ripeness for great flavor and nutrition!
Heritage and Heirloom Genetics
We very carefully select seeds to maximize flavor and nutrition. The same can be said for our selection of poultry and livestock.
We want our farm operations to grow to just the right size. Not too big. Not too small. The quantity of what we produce should match the local demand -- in balance. There is no place for greed. We don't want to compromise our values.
We believe in recycling, reducing energy consumption, working toward renewable energy sources, and being responsible stewards of the earth. We are working to create our own ecosystem around Bear Butte Gardens. We strive to minimize inputs from outside our system. We believe in the Five R's - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse (+repair), Recycle, and Rot.
We are strong advocates of farming/gardening principles and practices that increase biodiversity, enrich soils, improve watersheds, and enhance ecosystems. We aim to capture carbon in soil and aboveground biomass in order to help with the climate crisis.
We are part of our community. We know our customers, and they know us. We meet each other at community events, at other local businesses, at school events, at weddings, and at funerals. We know their kids, and they know our kids. This is a way of life and it is important to us. It builds trust, respect, and civic responsibility. We wouldn’t want it any other way!
Do you know where your food comes from, how it was produced, and how it was handled? If you are interested, then we would love to share with you how we do it. Review our website, read our blog, check out our YouTube channel, visit our farm, ask questions, network with us. The more you know, the more you will enjoy!
How and Where We Sell Our Products
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
Our primary marketing outlet is to our wonderful CSA shareholders. Shareholders purchase a share of our garden produce in the spring and then receive a package of fresh garden produce each week for about 16 weeks.
We generally participate in the Deadwood and Newell Farmers' Markets.
In 2019 we are building a farm stand so our customers can stop by at any time to purchase our products. Stay tuned for more information!
We now have an online store that carries many of our products for purchase through online transaction with pick-up at the gardens.
